Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • A pinch of salt
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (or melted butter)
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • Optional: Chocolate chips or a square of chocolate for extra gooeyness

Instructions

  1. Mix the Dry Ingredients

    • In a microwave-safe mug, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Mix well with a fork to ensure no lumps.
  2. Add the Wet Ingredients

    • Pour in the milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Stir until you get a smooth batter.
  3. Optional Gooey Surprise

    • Stir in some chocolate chips or place a square of chocolate in the center of the batter for a molten center.
  4. Microwave

    • Microwave on high for 60-90 seconds. Start with 60 seconds, then check; if it’s not done, heat in 10-second intervals. The cake should rise and look set but still moist.

Tips for the Perfect Mug Cake

  • Use a mug that holds at least 12 oz to avoid spillage.
  • Adjust cooking time based on your microwave's wattage.
  • Don’t overcook; the cake continues to cook slightly after removing from the microwave.
