Let's learn about construction of lithium-ion battery (Li-ion battery) and it's applications.

Construction :-

1. Lithium-ion cell has a four layer structure.
2. Anode [Negative Electrode]:
   • Made of graphite or carbon. (specifically carbon)
   • Stores lithium ions when the battery is charged.
3. Cathode [Positive Electrode]:
   • Made of a lithium metal oxide.
   • Releases lithium ions when the battery is charged.
4. Separator:
   • Thin, porous polypropylene.
   • Prevents physical contact between the anode and cathode.
5. Electrolyte [Electrolytic Solution]:
   • Made with lithium salt ( LiPF6 ).

Applications :

• Used in cameras.
• Used in cardiac pacemakers and other implantable device.
• Used for portable communication devices.
• Used to operate laptop computers, mobile phones and aerospace applications.
