' A liquid crystal is a state where the substance flows like a liquid but has some properties of a solid.'

Classification :

~ Liquid crystals can be classified into two types they are,
1} Thermo Trophic liquid crystals.
2} Leo Tropic liquid crystals.

Properties of Liquid Crystals :

• Liquid crystal can flow like a liquid due to loss of position of order.
• Liquid crystals are elongated and have some degree of rigidity.
• Liquid crystals have less orientational order.

Applications Of Liquid Crystals :

1. Liquid crystals are used in watches, calculators, telephone, mobile phones, laptops, etc.
2. Liquid crystals are used in blood pressure instruments, digital thermometers TV channel indicators.
3. Liquid crystals are used in potential metre conductometer and polorimeter.
