The Main Justification for Resistance to Change

Even though the term is so simple, it captures everything that exists on Earth and how it interacts with itself. Life appears to operate on the core tenet of "change" since it is always changing and taking on new forms.

Life on Earth is not much different. Yes, it differs greatly from the lives of other people on the world in that we are not merely constrained to the cycle of eating, sleeping, reproducing, and repeating; rather, change remains a vital part of who we are. Change is a constant presence in all aspects of life, including identity, location, and occupation. It's always there, yet it can be minor or large at times.

One would assume that since it is so essential to existence, anytime change occurs, humans would welcome it or at the very least tolerate it, but more often than not, we witness resistance. For what reason is that the case? There are a number of reasons why that occurs, but I want to focus on one major one for the purposes of this discussion.

It's possible that you learned about inertia in science class, when your teacher defined it as "the resistance of any matter to change in its momentum." It's not simply our physical bodies that are affected by this inertia; humans too experience it. Psychologically, we are victims of inertia.

You see, the modern world moves too quickly for people to spend a lot of time in one location—and I don't just mean geographically. Because technology is developing at an exponential rate, changes to our life occur before we ever realize they have occurred.

Just think about what the next ten or fifty years will bring. In the very least, our lives will have changed tenfold. It resembles a river with a powerful current, and we are all seated in our boats, riding it.

It is very difficult to fight change; it is like resisting the current. The worst thing about resistance is that it can occasionally force you to paddle against the current in an attempt to progress upstream.

The world of today demands that we constantly redefine or completely abandon our comfort zones since you never know what kinds of possibilities you might pass up because you were unwilling to adapt or accept the ones that had already occurred.

I know I'm oversimplifying this, but in my experience, people tend to resist change a lot. I've been around too many individuals that do that, so maybe it's simply chance, but it is what I have observed. The main idea is that we shouldn't make changes purely for show. We ought to balance the advantages and disadvantages when making decisions. I can assure you that not everyone is open to change, even when it is for the better.
