Today Oman celebrates it's 52nd National Day. It is celebrated on 18th November to commemorate the Country's independence from Portuguese control. It's a big day for every single person of this Country, be it expat or local everyone celebrates this day with a lot of enthusiasm. Actually the celebrations start from few days in advance. Almost every single store has some or the other offer and promotion in this time. There are loads of giveaways and prizes sponsored. In the 1st week of November a Military Parade is held and it's spectacular. I have had the opportunity to see it twice. There is a 2 days holiday given in the Country. You can see how significant this day is for the Country. The other highlight of this time is that on 19th November was the Birthday of the Late Sultan of Oman and hence both these days are celebrated with a lot of pompousness.
Yesterday at various locations there were some shows being held, we decided to go for one of them. They were all held in open spaces and free for people to attend. The one we attended was the local Omani concert where they had a stage performance of almost 3 hours with various artist singing and playing different instruments. The place was packed. It took us an hour to reach there which ideally would take us not more than 20 minutes.
Me, hubby and some friends visited this place called Almouj. It is a township built by the Sea front and it offers top of the line residence in the City. A part of it is commercial and open to everyone to visit. The place was fully lit up yesterday. Normally also this place is buzzing but yesterday it was over crowded but it was looking beautiful with the whole place lit up in colorful lights.
It was crowded, we were moving very slowly but finally managed to get in and also got a convenient parking spot.
All the trees and the buildings were lit up.
People were moving around waving the Oman flag
There were some complimentary Omani traditional sweets being distributed.
There were Henna artist who were making henna for ladies complimentary
We went towards the stage where the concert was being held. It was a good musical show.
The place was packed. This year the celebrations have been grand, considering the last 2 years because of Covid nothing much happened, this year there has been extra cheer and enthusiasm.
There were big screens around the place, so one could see it on the screen also.
Later we walked towards the other end where there is a walking path. That side was comparatively empty as majority of the people were near the stage side.
The whole place was lit up and it looked so gorgeous
As I mentioned this place is by the sea front and it is one of the up beat places so here we see all private yachts
Hubby is very happy, since I am back. He feels lonely in my absence
Today there is going to be a bigger show which is going to be a Laser and Fireworks show. It will be held at multiple locations across the city. We have planned to visit one of the venues. It's again going to be super crowded so we will need to leave early to not miss it.
