22 February which fell on Wednesday this year was a regular working mid-day of the week for Indians but it has a huge significance for the Saudi Nationals.

Other than weekly off that too on Friday and Eid vacations, there will be no other public holiday in Saudi Arabia except this one on the 22nd Feb every year. This date is celebrated as Saudi Founding Day and they celebrate this day by giving a National holiday for the entire Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In the year 1727 on this day, Saudi Arabia established its first Saudi state by laying the groundwork for the nation by Imam Muhammad bin Saud.

Here are a few pictures of the celebration from Riyadh, the Capital of Saudi Arabia. My husband was thrilled and overwhelmed to witness and experience this celebration over there. It is quite sickening to be away from family and loved ones but such events distract the expats who are settled there away from their families for their work.
