On 1st November we had a Walkathon for the Cancer Awareness in Muscat. During the whole month of October we did multiple events on Awareness programs, had gatherings, distributed pamphlets, had Doctors coming over to talk about it. Every year the Awareness program happens during the month of October. For this year the theme was spreading awareness on Breast Cancer as in the recent times the number of Breast Cancer cases has been on a rise. A lot of ladies shy off to talk about this and confront this matter. But it is important to accept that Breast is also one part of body which should be taken care off medically in the same manner like other parts of the body. It can happen to any age group, there are cases of young girls also getting Breast Cancer, hence it is not that a female should talk and think about it only when she gets older.
A regular home check up is necessary even at the age of 20. The Doctor told us that till the age of 35 to 40 home check ups are fine and after that it would be advisable to do a clinical check up regularly. If there is any thing uncommon felt then one must visit a Doctor for clinical check up. A Mammogram test will help detect. Personally I have not been in favor of this test as there is a high level of radiation in it, the Doctor also informed that a MRI test is also available now, cost wise it is higher then Mammogram but safer in terms of radiation, so I would ideally go in for a MRI. My Son informed me that there is a Thermogram test also which comparatively has lesser radiation. There are other means for diagnosis but one must take it up.
On the 1st November was the final event of Walkathon of this month long Cancer Awareness Campaign. There was a Registration process for the event with a very nominal charge and t-shirts were given with the registration. Many corporates were reached out to encouraging them to participate in the event.
School children also participated in the event. It was good to see younger generation standing up for such causes.
It was a big success as people turned out in large numbers
With the other fellow volunteers
Just some fun moments
Yayyyyy...I completed it
After the Walk there was a speech from the Health Minister on the topic encouraging people to spread awareness as much as possible
A small play area and a food court was also set up at the venue.
It is always a pleasure to be a part of these initiatives. I feel meaningful with my life when I am involved in these activities and feel that I am doing my bit for the larger good of humanity. It's not very big but whatever is in my capacity.
