Not so happy Canada Day 🇨🇦 July 1st 2021

in canada •  3 years ago  (edited)

I’m not sure if I should even mention this day … other than to say we are very sad in Canada these days as we learn about our country’s past and continued treatment of the Indigenous people here.

A lot of people seem to believe this all happened thousands of years ago, but these Residential Schools were still in operation up until the 1990’s

These Schools were operated by the Canadian Government and Catholic Church and every day we learn of a new atrocity a new genocide perpetrated by the Government Officials, the Catholic Priest and Nuns, the RCMP as children were taken from their homes, abused and murdered by the thousands.

This is going to be a very difficult time in Canada.

It is hard to fathom the full horror of what happened in Canada’s church-run residential schools for over a century: systematic abuse and mistreatment, on an industrial scale, with an estimated 150,000 Indigenous children ripped from their homes. The last school closed in 1996. Thousands have since testified to widespread sexual and physical abuse, forced labour on starvation rations, the eradication of their language and culture, and diseases allowed to run rampant. Some witnesses even spoke of killings. The 2015 Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) report called it cultural genocide.

751 Unmarked Graves Discovered Near Former Indigenous School in Canada

Experts estimate 4,000 to 10,000 children may have died at the schools, often from a combination of poor living conditions and disease

There are 139 Residential Schools in Canada … So far they have found over 1,000 bodies at 3 schools.

Saskatchewan: 751 students at the cemetery of the former Marieval Indian Residential School in the southeast corner of the Saskatchewan province.

British Columbia: 215 students at the Kamloops Indian Residential School in British Columbia.

British Columbia : 182 students using radar detection equipment near the site of a former residential school for indigenous children. St. Eugene's Mission School near Cranbook was operated by the Catholic Church from 1912 until the early 1970s.

Until the late 20th century, the children of Canada's First Nations were forcibly enrolled in 139 residential reform schools. There they were physically and emotionally abused by teachers and principals who refused them the right to speak their language and practice their culture.

Wherever Europeans migrated there were horrors placed on the indigenous people. Not unique to Europeans, history is filled with such atrocities by all peoples. I point out to those who talk of how hateful Islam is to read the Old Testament and the first books are filled with numerous genocides as one example.

I think it's important that we dissect those responsible (and for its continuance) from the masses who had no say or desire for these things to take place.

I often think one of the many drawbacks to democracy as we know it is the ability of those who commit evil to hide behind the illusion of group consensus, when in fact no majority groups are in favor of these things.

I'm not sure if the melting pot can work, as it doesn't seem to be doing so well in my lifetime. I think the only way we will ever know for sure is if we hold those accountable who do these things. They make sure to stir hatred among us based on our differences. They know if we were to ever get along and refuse their schemes they would be done.

I have hope that perhaps humans can learn to put our differences aside and learn to love one another. Platforms such as Blurt itself shows in a small controlled environment we can love one another. But it is a controlled environment, which suggests the world will never know it unless those in control lose their control they use for hateful designs.

I heard about it in your last post. Basically I can't blame Canadians just like I can't blame cathlolics. The facts should be required to taught in history. I'm not sure if any other restitution can be made but personal forgiveness is also necessary for healing. Korea has many scars carried over from Japenese oppression. A hundred years passed but healing is still necessary.

I blame the Government and the people who committed these crimes. Some of them are still walking around … they should be arrested and put on trial. This was still going on in the 1990’s …

I know the dates this happened and I agree that a trial can be put in order. Start with a petition.

Yes …. I’m pretty sure the perpetrators of these crimes will be found and put on Trial. They still have 136 Residential School grounds to investigate with sonar. There are thousands more unmarked graves. This is just the beginning.

If you get a petition going I will sign it and I think the indigenous community would also.

You know I don't know the history of Canada at all! I'm sorry I don't know.
