Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that the dominance of the dollar in world trade will end. He made these comments while addressing the summit of BRICS countries (an alliance consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa). The three-day summit began on Tuesday in South Africa.
Putin could not attend the conference because of an international arrest warrant. He addressed the conference through video call.
He said, the members of this alliance will discuss the issue of trading in national currencies by excluding the dollar. And the development bank of BRICS will play an important role in that.
He said, 'The goal of de-dollarization of our economic relations has gained momentum.
Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Brazilian President Lui Inacio Lula de Silva, and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attended the summit at the invitation of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Saudi Arabia is represented by Foreign Minister Farhan Bin Faisal.
BRICS countries represent 40% of the world's total population.
Although Putin objected to the dollar, Brazilian President Lula said the only goal would be to introduce a single BRICS trading currency to facilitate trade among BRICS countries.
He urged other countries to join this alliance. He said, Indonesia is a potential new member.
The three-day conference will discuss issues such as health, education and climate change, apart from increasing economic cooperation.Source: Arab News
