Butterflies are diurnal,large-sized,attractive colored insects of the class Lepidoptera.Like moths,they also have faces like twisted trunks.Antenna clavate type.Usually the body of the butterfly is elongated,brightly colored,and flies during the day.Butterflies pollinate many species of flowers.They are also a delightful and valuable product for beauty.In some parts of the world,butterflies are used as food in their adult and larval stages.Some butterflies belong to the group of pests of fruits and crops.Butterflies are generally divided into 12 genera.About 124 species have been identified in Bangladesh.Important species of butterflies include Papilionidae swallowtails,Lemon Butterfly Papilio demoleus and P.polytes.Butterflies of the genus Pieridae are widespread throughout the country.
