In my previous article I did a sculpture work in an article and i showed the TRICKS AND STEPS of how i was able to achieve the final result. Turned that bust (a sculpture of the head, shoulders, and chest of a human) was actually smaller. Also I wanted to play with something natural so I opted to work with just clay without the cement. And this was the result I got.
STEPS
Props needed include:
- Clay
- Water
- Board
- Spatula (Spoon)
- Knife
• Kneading
- Place the clay on a hard surface preferably a board. Knead (mash) the clay while adding water to make it sticky just enough to produce a firm shape.
- Use the knife to cut out your clay in half and then separate one half from the other.
Note: Use your palms instead of your fingertips when pushing the clay down
• Shaping:
Use your fingers to push sections of the clay to create your desired shapes. Every matter must take a shape, even water takes the shape of its container. Hence to achieve a bust I would advice to start with the shape of a sphere or a rectangle.
• Base:
- Push down the base just enough to form a base for your craft. Like in the image above
- Use your thumb to press down the base after you have halved the mound of clay. Remember it must not be to too thin depending on the potential weight of your work.
- Use the spatula to chisel in. This would in turn form the neck of the bust we are sculpting.
- Use the knife to cut the base into shape. It could form a triangle or a rectangle whatever falls into your mind. Remember, art is fluid.
• Organs - Carve the face using the Knife to shape/cut the upper part of the face to form in the eyes of the bust.
• Blending:
Smoothen the surfaces to try to give it that perfect oval shape and reduce the contour as minimal as possible as we shape out the organs.
• Hair
Use loose clay to form patches on the scalp to form the hairdo. We're making a female head.
• Lashes
