An Indian-American astronaut, engineer and the first Indian woman astronaut. The space shuttle Columbia flew into space with seven astronauts from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on January 17, 2003. After traveling in space for 15 days, 22 hours, 20 minutes and 32 seconds in a row, the STS 107 spacecraft crashed into the atmosphere on February 1 while landing on its way back to Earth, killing everyone. This was the 113th flight of the space shuttle program and the 28th and last flight of the space shuttle Columbia. Earlier, 26 more spacecraft of this mission have been successfully launched into space for 22 years. STS-107 Flight 113 of this program. Its first flight, the STS-1, was launched on April 12, 1971. Of the total 135, 132 were successfully launched, except for the Challenger and the space shuttle Columbia STS-107.

Kalpana started her career at NASA in 1986. His first space journey began on November 19, 1997. She was the first Indian woman to achieve this feat.
On February 1, 2003, while returning from space, the Columbia space shuttle crashed into the Earth's atmosphere, crashing seven crew members and killing everyone, including Kalpana.
