A day at the beach (English)
Good reading!
A day at the beach for a woman of science, enjoying and sampling
Last week I had the opportunity to go to the beach. It had been a long time since I had visited the beach and dipped into the sea. I was definitely needing it. But this pandemic situation, coupled with the gasoline shortage and the hyperinflation my country is experiencing had me a bit distant. I remember that one of my students told me: Profe you kind of knew. Because we did so many samplings we went so many times to the beach that now we can remember those moments. The truth is that my student pronounced very wise words.
Already in 2021 @angelica7 and I plan to go to the beach, an outing we wanted to do since last year. How crazy! It has been almost a year of confinement, quarantine, social distancing, and we have all gone through several processes and adapted or not to a different reality. In my country, the formula applied consists of one week of restriction and one-week of flexibility. So, we took advantage of the flexible week, we planned and went for a while to contemplate and enjoy the sea, to recharge our batteries, and talk of course.
We took some food and water with us. And I, when we were on our way out, I said: I'm going to sample. I had everything at home and I said to myself: Why not? I'll see how I process the samples. Suddenly someone interested in the samples showed up. So I took some things with me and took five samples. The truth is that being a researcher in environmental sciences, and working with marine debris and microplastics, it is a little difficult to clear my head and although I enjoy the moment, I take a little time to contribute to the knowledge and the cleanliness of the place. I really enjoyed the outing. And I know that soon I will start working again doing field trips and lab work.
I am an empowered woman who enjoys her work in the area of environmental sciences and the beauty of this job is that you can contemplate and enjoy beautiful places while doing something to conserve them.

So what was the penetration level / amount of micro plastics in your samples?
I actually didn't get what that sampling was for!
Actually, I have not yet processed the samples from that particular beach, but in other beaches in the region between 20-150 item/m2.
The sampling is to quantify the number of microplastics present in the beach sediments.
Thank you for your interest and comment
Playa y trabajo...ok jajaja siempre activa y pendiente del medio ambiente.
¡Saludos!
