"ls" command is simply used to generate the list of files and folders that are present in the directory where the ls command is run.
ls means list of files and folders within the system current directory.

To use it we simply write ls and press enter. let us see an example from my laptop to understand it better.

Step 1 : Open terminal and write ls in the terminal.

Step 2 : press enter and you will see list of all files and folders here.

Step 3 : again i used cd command and ls to see whats there in another folder.

you can use this command for many things , it all depends on you.
For me I never open folders and look for files and folders , instead i use ls command and then cd command etc.

So it is upto your need , why you want to use it.
