Hello all.
Today we will see how we can update the list of available packages and their versions on Linux ubuntu using terminal.
First in simple words let me tell you what we are going to do , we will going to get the list of updated packages from the internet as compared to what is already installed on our system.
So let us see how we will do this , see the steps below and learn it.
STEPS
Step 1 : First of all as usual you need to open up the terminal.
Step 2 : Now you must run the command , "sudo apt-get update" and press enter.
Step 3 : you will be asked for a password so type your system password that you use to login here and press enter.
That's it you are done now , we have list of all the updated packages from internet now.
Why we do this...?
As you have read above we have only get the list of available updates of packages from the internet but the thing is that we have not upgraded them till now , so in simple words before upgrading these packages we need the list of these packages and thats the reason why we do this.
That's all for this post , we will see abou how we upgrade these packages in the upcoming post.
