Our goal
WhatsApp was started as an alternative to SMS. Our products now support sending and receiving various media: text, photos, videos, documents and locations, as well as voice calls. Most of your personal moments have been shared with WhatsApp, which is why we've created end-to-end encryption in our app. It is our desire to let people communicate anywhere in the world without hindering us behind every product decision.
Our team
WhatsApp was founded by Jan Kaum and Brian Acton who previously spent 20 years at Yahoo. WhatsApp joined Facebook in 2014, but continues to be a standalone app with a laser focus on creating messaging services that work quickly and reliably anywhere in the world.
