With her tea in hand, Tina seated at the dining room table. She always felt better after drinking tea with a little honey. Although she had been experiencing anxiety for the preceding few weeks, she felt more at ease as she sat at her dining room table. Since Edward's death, her favorite spot to be was this one, where they used to spend their mornings sipping coffee before breakfast.
Their grown daughter led a busy life of her own. She refused to let Tina move in with her after suggesting that Tina sell the house. Despite how challenging it was, life had to carry on.
Cooking alone was difficult at first, and she usually had a ton of leftovers in the refrigerator. It was all difficult, and she started to feel down. She could still feel Edward all around her, and going to bed alone at night was the hardest part of the night.
She attended a support group, which made things better, but talking about Edward was still tough. Months passed, the agony lessened a little, and one day she laughed at something someone said at the group, feeling somewhat normal again for the first time in a year.
She made pals in the support group. Every week, they held a dinner gathering, and that night was her turn. Due to her recent lack of self-confidence, she didn't feel particularly up to it, but she doesn't want to ruin someone else's good time. Tina tried to figure out what was really troubling her while taking another sip of tea. These past few nights, she had been having vivid dreams about Edward. After everybody had gone home that night, she laid in bed and she could have thought she felt his presence beside her. He smelled good to her. The feeling lingered for a few minutes before disappearing, although she was not sure if it was a nightmare.
She went downstairs to brew tea to help her relax after waking up with a headache. She was still plagued by the uneasy sensation that someone was observing her.
Taking a deep breath, Tina got up to load the dishwasher with the cup. Abrupt pain shot through her left arm, and she scrambled to regain her balance, but it occurred too late. She dropped to the ground expecting to hit her skull, but she landed softly. Upon opening her eyes, she met Edward's gaze directly.
"Hey, sweetie.I come to pick you up, my love.
Tina was having trouble understanding herself, and all of a sudden, nothing seemed important. For the first time in months, she felt joyful, safe, at ease, and content.
"You have been here all along?"
"Yes. I wanted to make sure you had enough time to bid your pals farewell."
"You are naturally so compassionate."
Edward grinned and assisted her in standing up.
"Baby, it's time.
Grinning, Tina grasped his hand.
She was prepared for whatever waited for them, especially with Edward by her side.
