Would You Rather Be Aware Or Unaware?

Would you rather be aware of what you don’t know, or unaware? Why?

When I read these thought-provoking questions in my mailbox this morning, it brought to mind the brilliant quote by Martin Luther King Jr. He said,

Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.

This brilliant man is not further from the truth. Knowledge appears through research and discovery. Man could not have survived living on earth without knowledge because ignorance kills. I'd rather be aware of what I don't know than live in ignorance.

I have gotten to this point in life because I embraced knowledge and fought through the thick walls of ignorance surrounding me. Knowledge opens our eyes to the mysteries of life. When we have this key (knowledge), we can unlock doors and explore the boundless opportunities around us.

I can bet there are still valuable resources yet undiscovered that can refresh and sustain our planet. Knowledge and research will dig them up.

In my informed opinion, ignorance is slavery while knowledge is freedom. I imagine that had I refused to learn what cryptocurrency or blockchain is, I would not be this informed. I would have continued to labour slavishly, trying to survive. With this knowledge at my fingertip, my world expanded both financially and socially.

I know that there are certain situations that some people would prefer to be unaware of like gory details or heartbreaking situations. It's understandable but still, knowing that terrible things happen sometimes to good people beats not knowing.

This brings me to attitude. I mean, the effect of knowledge on people. Should knowledge make us wiser and humble or proud? In the words of Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn, a Russian novelist,

An ill-educated person behaves with arrogant impatience, whereas truly profound education breeds humility.

True, knowledge can breed confidence but too much confidence that is akin to arrogance usually leads to a fall. As the Russian novelist said, education should breed humility.

These are my thoughts on the above questions. Feel free to add yours in the comment section.

I totally agree to this. Ignorance is a disease that if not cured, could harm us forever. We need to seek knowledge. No knowledge is wasted and what we know will be within us till eternity. We can't stop learning because it continues throughout death.

So, seeking and thirst for knowledge would take us out of slavery (ignorance) into freedom.
