A tribe is a social group composed chiefly of numerous families, clans or generation having a shared ancestry and language.orisun

South-West Nigeria is a Yoruba speaking region and a Yoruba speaking area with different dialects in the same state. There are basically six states in this region which are Ogun,Lagos,Ondo,Oyo,Osun, and Ekiti. There are also different tribes in this region such as the Ijebu,Egun, Tapa,Egba, to mention but a few.

South-West is known for farming, Hunting of animals, fishing, crafting and also famed for great musician's.

The Yorubas
I am a Yoruba boy who hails from Ogun State, Nigeria. It is believed that origin of yoruba flashed back to the ancient A.D when the father of Yoruba, Oduduwa migrated from Mecca to Ile-Ife in Osun State Nigeria. The area of Ile-Ife was originally populated with the Igbo's but when Oduduwa got to Ile-Ife he chased them away ,took over the place and became the first paramount ruler of Ile-Ife which signifies the Yoruba dynasty and empire. The Yoruba are one of the largest ethnic group in Africa.

Yoruba festivals
The Yoruba's till this day practice and celebrate different kinds of festivals. A common festival practiced by the Yoruba is the "Oro festival" which most times takes place after the death of well-respected person in the society such as a King and a chief . The festival is only done by male descendants who are natives of the specific areas where the festival is been celebrated. This festival lasts for several days(during the day and sometimes at night),during this festive period females and non-indigenes are expected to stay indoors as it is said that Oro must not be seen by women or non-indigenes, because if they see the Oro they might rather go blind or if such person is caught he will be used as a sacrifice for the betterment of the town.

Naming ceremony
The Yoruba's have a very different and unique style of celebrating a new born baby. First of all,the name of the child is mostly derived from the family circumstances before the child was given birth to. For instance, those whose name starts with Baba such as Babatunde,Babajide are the ones who were given birth to around the passing of a family elder. Also there are some specified items needed to fully complete the ceremony such as water, palmoil, salt, honey, bitterkola, kolanut,Pepper. These items are believed to give the child a successful life.

Music style
We the Yorubas have a unique genres of music which are popularly known all over Nigeria. A common genre of music amongst the Yoruba's is the Fuji music which was initially called "Ajisari". The word "Aji" means wake up while "Sari" is what Yoruba refer to as the food Muslims eat in the dawn when fasting. So basically this music was played in the olden days for wakin Muslims up to eat sari during the period of ramadan . But later on,a man named Sikiru Ayinde Barrister changed the name from. "Ajisari" to what we now call Fuji music. He got the name "Fuji" from Mount Fuji in Japan.

Here is a Fuji music video

Traditional titles
Every traditional ruler in Yorubaland is called an 'OBA". Traditional King is chosen after consultations must have been made by an IFA Priest who chooses the person to be crowned King.

In other words ,names from ruling family would be provided to the IFA Priest who would then consult the IFA to find out who becomes the next King of that particular place. If IFA chooses a stranger or a non-indigene of that town, then so be it. There also other chieftancy titles alongside the King such as the Otun( the closest person to the king),Asipa,Balogun(who is always called up during war),Iyalode(a woman who takes cares of the market affairs),Osi and Abobaku(the person who dies with the king, if he is still alive when the king dies then he would be killed and buried alongside the king)
