Should the time required to make a good or bad review of a film according to the audience it appeals to include the whole film? Or is a short viewing, reading the plot, watching the trailer enough for evaluation?
As always, the answer will vary according to the person, but depending on the film and the mood of the moment, the answer may vary within the same person. Sometimes even a comment from a reliable source may be sufficient.
In a real sense, the criterion for me is the thoughts formed in my mind based on the reflection of the film during the first 15 minutes of viewing. However, it is not 100% accurate because some films may start badly and end well. For example, the first 15 minutes of the film Beanpole was quite boring and looked like a stagnant film with independent scenes. Afterwards, it turned into a great film about post-war dramas after the events and processes connected with each other. If I had turned off the film at the boring moments, I would not have been able to enjoy watching it afterwards and I would not have known about such a film.
I can give the same example for the film Elizabeth Is Missing. The film, which was boring and stagnant at the beginning where only the effects of aging were described, reflected a warm and realistic story while dealing with forgetfulness, one of the effects of aging. The difference between the beginning and the aftermath was a good example of how a film should be handled in its entirety.
Unlike the first two examples, in Marry Me, the film draws you into a show world as soon as it starts and continues in a straight line as it started. It is possible to observe the performance at the beginning as well as at the end.
The film The Colony, on the other hand, reflects what it will give you and what it will not give you without any mystery in the trailer, in the subject and during a while of watching. Without any extra expectation from the film, you watch the post-apocalyptic process and enjoy watching it. In other words, there is no decrease or increase in the excitement at the beginning. Even watching only 5-10 minutes is enough to give an idea of what we will see and what we will not see in the film.
Malignant is one of the rare films that manages to keep its mystery until the last moment. At the beginning you see a peak and you think it can't go any higher, but it does. As soon as you go higher, you feel the fear and tension in the film in the excitement of your viewing pleasure while suddenly falling down. From the beginning, the thought that I must watch this film dominates and leaves you in a constant curiosity about the ongoing flow. It manages to maintain the line of curiosity until the last scene.
These are the differences between watching/not watching a film and they are different indicators of the way each film says "watch me". One can decide whether or not to watch a film by looking at its poster. It can also be decided by looking at the director or actors. However, we know that there are directors, actors and films that have not yet made a name for themselves in world cinema. At the point of determining them; we need much more information than the trailer, subject, actors. This can only happen by watching the film. The film closed after 15 minutes of boring viewing may be a missed opportunity. Or ongoing viewing can be the cause of wasted 1.5 hours. I trust my feelings about turning films on/off and I don't use the term 100% wasted time for any film I watch. Or I can't say it was fun for every film, watch it!
There is no guarantee that every activity in daily life will bring great pleasure. We do not know this until we do it. A trip that was thought to be fun can be boring, a meeting with friends that was thought to be boring can be fun. Just like in the films; the time you see as wasted time can be my fun. These are just choices, and choices have more meaning when they are made without prejudice and with low expectations.
