Continuing to live in the same house with a man you were married to but don't remember, voting for Obama and asking who the current president is even though you know he won! I don't think I would be misleading anyone if I said that these two seemingly complex sentences are actually the summary of The Vow, a 2012 movie with a complex story.
Imagine that a part of your life is suddenly erased, you don't recognize anyone and you don't remember any memories of the erased part. I'm almost sure that everyone will feel empty at the beginning, but after a while I think that everyone has memories and people in those memories that they would like to forget. Anyway, I will remain neutral to the story, I will not share my opinion.
Although The Vow is a romantic movie, I think it is more dramatic. While watching the movie, you can feel the drama especially through the female character who loses part of her memory. You admire the way she tries to get out of the void she falls into and admire the way she reflects her situation in every scene.
You can feel the romantic part of the movie piece by piece through the husband of the female character who lost her memory. On the male character, the romantic part can be interrupted by anger and resignation. There are many and sharp ups and downs. I think it fits with the story of the movie but it hurts the romantic aspect of the movie.
As for the plot of the movie, a newly married couple who are madly in love with each other have a traffic accident. After the traffic accident, the male of the couple receives outpatient treatment, while the female remains in a coma for a while. After she wakes up from the coma, only the part from the moment she recognized the man she was married to to the moment she got married is completely erased from her memory. Thus, the aftermath of the accident becomes the main story of the movie.
I liked the plot of the movie and the way it was handled, and the fact that it was based on a real life story, which I learned later, makes the movie more valuable. Such a dramatic and sad story inevitably triggers a sense of curiosity.
The character of Paige, the woman of the married couple, is played by Rachel Acadams and I think she was the best in the movie. I liked the way she reflected the indecision and emptiness she was experiencing during the back and forth she was going through. The fact that she was more dominant caused the dramatic side to come to the forefront after the accident that her character experienced.
Channing Tatum plays Leo, the male of the married couple who survives the accident with minor injuries. His performance as an actor was good, but his fragility caused him to deviate from the path he was following from time to time. His sense of resignation was like a bag he carried with him at all times.
I can say that the screenplay of The Vow is quite successful, but I would like to add that the story is based on a real life story. When you are inspired by this kind of life, it is debatable to what extent you should share in the success of the resulting work. I highly recommend you to watch the movie. I am sure that the story, in which romance and drama are intertwined, will affect you as well.
