Though our society seems to be driven by a fear of a pandemic, at least the churches are reopening. It's unfortunate that not everyone has come back. I don't blame anyone who are worried about contracting or spreading the illness. I advise everyone who has these kinds of worries to keep a healthy distance.
Luckily, a majority of churches are now offering live streaming for their services. I have an issue with people who have adopted the mindset of not attending church on Sundays and have grown accustomed to doing so. Their Sunday routine has changed, but going to church was still a habit. Their decision to avoid being with Christians on Sunday was not motivated by worries.
People who grew up in a household that regularly attended church reported feeling happier and having more meaning in life. There is a group emphasis on God when we get together to worship. It helps to read, pray, and sing aloud with others to take our minds off of ourselves. We turn our attention from ourselves and our situations to Someone far larger. When we consider who He is, we see ourselves.
Some could respond by claiming they are capable of performing these tasks on their own. Although that makes sense in theory, I haven't come across anyone who actually accomplished it well, save than being involved in a church family. Our purpose in creation was community. We rely on one another. Our purpose for attending church is not to be surrounded by ideal individuals. Our strength comes from coming together with other hurting people and turning to God as a group. It's not just us.
I'm not urging us to go back to church just to have a spiritually fulfilling experience. Jesus Christ is necessary for us. By turning our gaze from ourselves to Jesus, we are focusing on the One who saves and loves us unlike anyone else. Both Jesus and His church are necessary for you.
Allow God to minister to you through others, and allow Him to minister to others through you.
