Yakutsk / Jakutsk

My visit to Yakutia in 2009 was very spontaneous. The invitation from a professor of Yakut language to a conference was reason enough for me to drop by again. I then went there in the morning for preliminary discussions and preparations. It's more like a school inside, but it was a very enjoyable time.

Mein Besuch in Jakutien war im Jahre 2009 sehr spontan. Die Einladung eines Professors für jakutische Sprache zu einer Konferenz war für mich Grund genug dort mal wieder vorbeizuschauen. Zu Vorgesprächen und Vorbereitungen bin ich dann am Morgen dorthin aufgebrochen. Innen ähnelt es eher einer Schule, aber es war eine sehr angenehme Zeit.

At lunch break I was able to stretch my legs in front of the building. We see Lake Teploye, which is separated from the Lena by barriers and is an old arm of it. View towards the city:

Zur Mittagspause konnte ich mir die Beine vor dem Gebäude vertreten. Wir sehen den See Teploye, der durch Barrieren von der Lena getrennt ist und ein alter Arm davon ist. Blick Richtung Stadt:

Then on my way home I passed the academic theater, a nice little venue for all kinds of culture.

Auf meinem Heimweg kam ich dann am akademischen Theater vorbei, eine nette kleine Spielstätte für alle Arten von Kultur.

The sidewalk looks normal, but it isn't. As everywhere there is a 20-30 cm thick layer of ice on everything. The gray color comes from the sand that is constantly being scattered. Salt is not sprinkled here, that would make no sense. Often, however, there are spots with pure ice next to the path that are often used to do a little slide. It looks funny when women do it with great skill and high heels.

Der Gehweg schaut ganz normal aus, ist es aber nicht. Wie überall ist eine 20-30 cm dicke Eisschicht auf allem. Die graue Farbe kommt vom Sand der ständig gestreut wird. Hier wird nicht mit Salz gestreut, das hätte keinen Sinn. Oft sind aber neben dem Weg Stellen mit reinem Eis die gerne benutzt werden um eine kleine Rutschpartie zu machen. Das sieht lustig aus wenn es Frauen mit großen Geschick und Stöckelschuhen machen.
