Have you ever been to any local marketplace found in any part of Nigeria? I guess some of you tend to miss this privilege.

Well, this afternoon, I decided to tour around a local market located in my community. The market is located along the Aki na ukwa expressway. This expressway connects the southern part of Nigeria to the northern part of the country.

Although, I could not walk around the whole market as the sun was so hot. So, I will be showing you the areas I went to and what I found out today. Just relax and read till the end.

To start with, this market is known as the Eke market. It's a daily market and people from far places usually come to this market to buy and sell. It's actually a small but significant market.

Today, I went to the section where items required for soup preparations are being sold. There are many sections where many different types of goods are being auctioned but I have decided to visit this particular place where soup items are found.

Let's begin!!!

From this view, you can see how goods are being displayed for customers to make their choice. On the table, is what we called ogbono in the Igbo language. It's a kind of food material needed in draw soup preparations. It must be grounded or mashed before one can make use of it. Well, its English name is Irvingia gabonensis, it's a local product from Irvingia or commonly known as African mango.

Now, from this point, you can see the Irvingia gabonensis. Other goods found on this table include onions, crayfish which are tied up in leather. I didn't ask what was in that small plastic bucket.

From this view, you can see the small handy grinding machine. Again, the seller here was attending to a cus, so I quickly took the picture. In the leather is the crayfish.

So, I moved to another of the shop to see other areas of the market.

The seller here is selling coco cocoyam, tapioca, and kola nut, you can actually see these products when you zoom the picture above.

Here, I spotted this woman who was selling in her shop. What I found on her table was melon. This melon is called egusi in the Igbo Igbo language. It is used also in soup preparation.

Besides the dried fish is a basin of gari. In this case, the gari is being sold out according to the quantity you wish to buy. You can buy the yellow bowel or you can request half of the bowl, although they have different prices.
