My Life Before the Maid
I had to change my residency from Delhi to Bangalore with my Spouse because of the New Job I recently found. Thereafter we got new accommodation in a close-by neighborhood, which we Immediately loved and adapt to.
Then we settled in, at last, then it immediately came to mind that I need to seek for the Lifeline of any household, which is a “maid”. Because I was foreign to the neighborhood and have never been to the south before in my entire life.
I’m always apprehensive, which drove me to go to my neighbors to inquire about maids, but it proved futile as they were less interested to give me the answers I needed. I became very restless since I wasn’t finding the answers I needed.
As I was contemplating over the Issue on my balcony one day, I discovered a small brick house at the end of the road track where our building is based. An elderly lady was just sitting in front of the house with a little boy on her Lap.
An instinct instructed me to go down to where she was and on arriving there I asked if she could help, even as my husband was not very ok with the idea but didn’t stand in the way. I moved to her and asked if she has an Idea of anyone who can be employed as a maid.
Unfortunately, she didn’t understand Hindi/English being that he’s from Andhra. And she also was a part of the migrant Laborers who based on construction Sites.
Even as she didn’t understand what I was saying, she made uttered some names and gave some gesturing signs telling me to come with her.
She then took me to meet a young girl who she said used to work as a maid in a close-by building and used a local language to ask her to come work at my place. She finally helped me get a maid. I was indeed grateful for her help.
After that very day, anytime she saw me leaving for office or anywhere, she would use some sign gestures to ask if have eaten and I would reply Yes.
But this simple act gets to me every time, the love she shows me is really amazing it makes me so emotional because have never experienced such love from a stranger before since she was always out for my welfare.
She even went to the extent of coming to help with the chores whenever my maid did not come around, even with the hardship she was facing, she was always out to help with Joy and with a smile to make.
My contract didn’t last long over there so I was transferred out of India for work in Japan, I don’t think I will a long time forget the love, her charming smile, her amazing nature, and her demeanor will always stay with me and stay as a reminder to me that you don’t have to be rich to help or be powerful to rescue nor be educated. All you need is a heart of Gold
