We have a little daughter, so we decided to vacation this summer at home in Slovakia. We thought about where we would go. I like nature and history. My wife, like me, likes animals and my little daughter too. We looked at the map and it was decided. The holiday will be in Bojnice. I have never been to Bojnice before. There is a castle and a zoo.
We have four zoos in Slovakia. Each of them is something special. The ZOO in Bojnice is the oldest and most visited of them. It was established in 1955. In addition to the fact that the visitor can see the collections, ZOO Bojnice also takes care of injured animals from the wild and cooperates in the protection of endangered species.
It's a nice sunny summer day and we walk through the entrance. We enter the zoo. Our first steps are towards the map of the area. We still need to know where the restaurants are. In addition, of course, we also looked at where the individual animals are located.
Our first steps are to the pavilion, where there are fish, snakes, lizards and turtles. I was immediately attracted by turtles that I had not seen with my own eyes.
Matamata
The first is matamata. It looks like a living fossil from the time of the dinosaurs. It inhabits swamps in Brazil and Venezuela and feeds on fish, amphibians.
common snapping turtle
The second of them is a Common snapping turtle. This turtle also likes shallow waters and swamps because it is not a good swimmer. It lives in North and Central America and is an extremely predatory and aggressive turtle.

We walk around the pavilion with a lion and my daughter was also pleased by the squinting meerkats.

The zoo in Bojnice is the only zoo in Slovakia where you can see elephants. One of them came to look at us.

We walk past the Greater Kudu paddock. This antelope has interesting spiraled horns. It lives in South and East Africa and is one of the largest antelopes.

On the other hand, the Kirk's Dikdik antelope, which has a nearby enclosure, is one of the smallest antelopes. It lives in the arid savannas of East and Southwest Africa.

When I leave, I still look into the treetops, where the red panda is resting.

There are many interesting animals in the Bojnice Zoo. You will learn about their lives, where they occur in the wild, whether they are not endangered and many other interesting information.
Well thank you
