Hi,

During our trip and knowing the city of Krakow, we took the time for a short trip outside the city. By bus we head near the city and our goal is the Benedictine Abbey Tyniec. I have to say that the journey is going fast, Wawel Castle gives up and we are as far away from the city.

From the road we have a nice view of one of the monasteries located near Krakow. Despite the fact that we do not look at the Kamaldulov Monastery in Beliany near Krakow, I will write something about it. Our guide, who accompanied us after Krakow, traveled with us on the bus and what he told us about it. It's an interesting, unusual place.

Firstly, I have to say that the monastery is still inhabited by monks. They live extremely modestly and adhere to the strict order. Nowadays, I would say that it is already unimaginable for us that someone in a developed industrial Europe can live in this way. The monks live in small houses along the sidewalk and there is a small garden at each house. Everybody cultivates what he wants and what he likes. They serve as a bed from boards and straw. They have one, two blankets at their disposal. Each house with its garden is enclosed by a wall, it is the world's inhabitant - hermitage. They can talk, but only three times a week. At the time of the post even twice.

I read that Kamalduli are vegetarians. Their motto is ,, Ora et Labor, - pray and work.

We continue our way and in a few minutes we are getting off in front of the gate of another monastery. We are in front of the gates of the Benedictine Abbey.

This place has been inhabited since the distant past. The Benedictine Abbey of St. Peter and Paul. The first Tynie Abbot Aaron was the first known Bishop of Krakow. The monastery did not avoid the ravages of the Tatars in this area and they burned it in 1259. After it was fired, however, the monastery did not let the other way around. They built a church in Gothic style, fortified the monastery and adjacent to the castle fortifications. The Tynie Castle had a permanent military crew until the 17th century. After the loss of military importance, the castle was rebuilt and became part of the abbey. In 1656 the monastery was burned by the Swedes. In the years 1771-1772, soldiers of the Bar Confederation were fortified and bounced off the attack of Russian troops led by Alexander Suvorov. In 1817, the monastery was canceled until 1939, when the Benedictines returned and live in it to this day.

The courtyard in the monastery is spacious and we used a break and relaxation for a while.

The castle walls are robust and high, I have to say that they have been well protected by this object and arouse respect. I wouldn't want to be the one that attacks this fortification.

We are also going to look at the dominant of the monastery, to the church.

The Benedictine Abbey Tyniec was depicted on a stamp during the occupation of Poland in World War II.

One would not say that the monastery in which they live can have such an interesting military history.

We leave the trip again a wiser knowledge and we can say to the next.

well thank you
