Here's my 2nd contribution to the #monochromemonday tag, and for this post I would like to feature one of the best places that I visited in Singapore ~ Kampong Glam!
It's located in Arab Street and near to the Bugis area.
During daytime, Kampong Glam is like a street art gallery. It is very quite. The walls of the shophouses are filled of visual art like paintings, graffiti, stickers and any other medium.
But then at night this place is buzzing with club goers because it becomes a nightlife paradise.
Enough intro, let me show you the Wall Art that interests me the most...
To give you a sense of scale, this painting is about 4 meters tall. It covered the entire wall of a building.
To give you a better sense of scale... the window is real and the man on a bike is real. That's how crazy the size of these paintings and it requires professionalism to complete them.
Did you know that vandalism or spray painting on walls is illegal in Singapore?
The maximum penalty for vandalism is a fine of S$2,000 (£958: $1,461) or up to three years in jail, in addition to three to eight strokes of the cane.
In 2010, a Swiss consultant Oliver Fricker was jailed and caned for spray-painting graffiti on a train in Singapore.
It may sound ruthless but the law enforcers in Singapore believe that by simply paying money or going to jail doesn't have a long lasting effect in the offender's mind. A few strokes of caning will definitely leave a physical mark to the skin which will remind the offender for the rest of his life.
