My Blurt Blog: James Bond 007 Movies & Live Music By Grace Jones 🎤

Let's talk about BOND ~ I mean James Bond with the exclusive "License To Entertain" 007 millions of viewers. I remember this Movie as one of my favorite Bond films of the eighties (1985 if I remember correctly). I'm not good at exact release dates without looking it up, just me being lazy LOL

"A View To A Kill" was one of the few Bond films that I never actually saw at the Cinema. One of our children was born around that time, so not much less opportunity or the energy to go out very often. Too busy feeding the Baby and changing nappies if I remember.

Instead we would hire films from our local BlockBusters Rental shop on a "One Night" rental. VHS and BetaMax began before the birth of DVD players. At the time I could only afford to buy the cheaper BetaMax machine, the problem being that there was less choice of films to rent on the shelves.

So one evening, when everyone was in bed asleep I finally got to watch "A View To A Kill" on my TV in peace and quiet for a change. "Roger Moore" plays Bond 007 in his usual way, with lots of cool gadgets and all those many "One-Liner" jokes. A usual "car chase" of course had to be included, obviously intended to get your blood pumping!

However, they was something very different about this Movie, a new refreshing change of the normal way that the women acted in a Bond Movie. Enter "Grace Jones" with dramatic effect! At the time I only knew Grace Jones as a Music Artist, a black soul singer to be precise.

I loved her songs (I will try to find one) but was really surprised to see her acting in a Movie. She played "May Day" the Baddies little helper, who you really would not want to annoy. Her acting performance was brilliant as the tall, feisty, & strong willed "Black Woman" who slowly changes sides from "bad" to "good". Actually protecting Roger Moore instead of being the normal useless Bond female who can't do anything except utter the words: Ohhh! James (I think you know what I mean).

Finally I have found one of "Grace Jones" best songs on YouTube ~ Here you go.... Have a listen 😎

  • In this video she is singing live on the UK TV BBC Music show "Later With Jools Holland".
  • This song "Slave to the Rhythm" is performed by the talented Music Artist "Grace Jones".
