Usually Bangladeshi students go to the United States to study on scholarships. But Afnan Mahmud Chowdhury is an exception in this regard. He went to the United States two years ago with a 100% scholarship as a golfer. In addition to studying at the University of Alabama, he continues to play golf. In the last two years, he has been participating in various tournaments on behalf of his university. But today came the highest success.
He is the fourth of six golfers in the United States Inter-University Golf Tournament. In two rounds, Afnan has played one more shot than he could. It is the first division tournament of the NCC (National College Curriculum League) level in the United States. Only three golfers, including Afnan, from Asia, took part in the tournament. The other two are from Indonesia and the Philippines. The subcontinental golf course is usually 7500 yards. But this course in the United States is 6,000 yards. Usually one round of 16 holes but there were 21 holes to play.
Afnan Mahmood played in the first international tournament in 2013, at the Asian Youth Games in China. Then in 2015 he played in the Asian tour in Dhaka. He played in the British Junior Open in the United Kingdom in 2016. In 2016, Faldo became the champion of the Faldo Series U-16 competition in China and went to play with a university scholarship from the United States.
Golf in Afnan's blood. Baba Mahmudur Rahman Chowdhury is a former golfer. Mahmudur, currently a member of the BPGA (Bangladesh Professional Golf Association) executive committee, is overjoyed with his son, ‘Mahir (Afnan) I am proud of this success. He used to run Kurmitola course from a young age. He once learned to play regularly from Siddiqur Rahman. I want to maintain this continuity of success. I want him to play in the PGA Tour in the United States in the future.
