If Manchester United would get good players, they would definitely spend money. The club have two problems presently, which are psychology problem and not playing Champions League problem, so to get good players that would help them out of this problem, they would definitely need to spend money, they would double the amount that they are suppose to spend if they play Champions League because any players that would play for them now is risking his own career as well, they only player that won't risk his own career is the player that have already won almost everything. Even if he has won everything, he will still want to win more. 10 Champions League winning isn't much.
If Manchester United has promised to pay Frenckie De Jong the amount of money that he is collecting at Barcelona, maybe he would have consider playing for the club but they said they would pay him 260 thousand pounds, a player that is collecting more than 500 thousand pounds in the club that would play Champions League, it would pay him to collect pay cut at Barcelona instead of joining Manchester United. Even if he Collect pay cut of 200 thousand pounds in Barcelona, it still pay him to stay in Barcelona that would play Champions League, unlike Manchester United that would play Europa league and they can't even win a single match ever since the premier league has started.
Bidding for Frenckie De Jong is a mistake for Manchester United because they don't have what would entice him to join the club. If they have promised to give him more than what he earns at Barcelona, he might risk it. It was when Barcelona have problem most he joined the club and he never even win Laliga with the club talk less of Champions League. They need midfielders and striker in the club, but defensive midfielders first, then striker because that is where things are lacking for the club, it is after they have a good defensive midfielders that they can get to know exactly where to work on in the attacking row, maybe the wing side or the center attack.
When José Morinho worked as Manchester United coach, he get what the club need is a midfielder and he get it for them, that was when he bought Paul Pogba but Pogba came because of money, he also knew that he risked his career by joining Manchester United then because Juventus that he was playing for was better than Manchester United, Manchester United had almost the same problem that they have now then. Juventus are even better than Manchester United now, upon how much Juventus have problem, within the year that Paul Pogba joined Manchester United and the year he returned to the club, they didn't play Europa league, they plays Champions League.
So the same way Manchester United spent money in the time of José Morinho is the same way that they would spend money now
