Manchester United displayed what can be referred to as an unbelievable comeback yesterday during their clash with Southampton at Saint Mary's Stadium.
Needless to say, Manchester United's style of play ever since their last lost match to Basaksehir in the UEFA Champions League has been improving and most fans are convinced that the Red Devils have really got hold of it. But yesterday, almost gave people a different thought.
There's always something with team selection. If there's a single wrong selection in a team's line ups, it might jeopardize the work of the whole team. Yesterday's match against Southampton was apparently a very important match to Man United, gambling with such a team line ups is another unbelievable one coming from Ole Gunnar just when we thought he's changed.
The early minutes of the first half of the game saw United taking over the field with a lot of beautiful chances but all ended up as a wasted effort (all thanks to United's Greenwood failing to turn it all into a goal). The truth is that Greenwood is a very talented young player who has got eyes for goals but his style of play is yet immature and unfit, especially in such a situation where experience is more needed and United really need a winning.
Well, just as a fan said in one of my few previous articles "I hate it when you sign a player just to bench him". It's all been speculations before, but now it's obvious that Ole Gunnar is a very good coach in terms of tactics but is actually a novice in selecting the right players to do the needful for United.
The second half of the match saw the introduction of Edison Cavani to the pitch after he was substituted for Mason Greenwood and of course after that, everything changed. Cavani was everywhere on the pitch yesterday as he's noticed going from the front to the back, defending, tackling, passing and doing so much more we sure know Marcus Rashford will never do (So much for someone called an old player). Everything seemed better for United as they took over the field yesterday. Taking over the midfield and closing in on the opponents defence every now and then till Bruno Fernades found a way to shoot his ball to the bottom left corner of Southampton's net and turn United's zero to one.
Just when we thought we've seen it all, Bruno sent in another outside 18 shot which was controlled into the net by Cavani's header (what a beautiful comeback!). The concluding minutes of the game saw Rashford sent in a shot in form of cross which was beautifully controlled to the back of Soton's net with another header by Cavani giving United an unbelievable comeback and lead. It was such an Unbelievable moment for United at Saint Mary's stadium as the most beautiful comeback in EPL this season.
Personally, I think including Square-play into the playing style of your team can really help your team survive more in England as what saved United yesterday isn't their normal style of play, but square play. Having a steady good crossing can go a long way, but having the right man to send it in either by foot or by head is the best. And for United, I think Cavani is the right man.
