The presidential election of FC Barcelona is fast approaching, and today the club has announced who the official election will be in between. Thus, votes can be cast on Joan Laporta, Victor Font and Antoni Freixa when the ballot boxes at the Camp Nou open on 24 January.
In recent months, presidential candidates have struggled to gather enough signatures to run. The three aforementioned were the only ones to reach the requirement of 2,257 signatures. Laporta managed to collect 9,625 signatures, Font is listed for 4,431, while Freixa collected 2,634 together.
Joan Laporta will probably attract recognition from some when he was president of the Catalan big team between 2003 and 2010. If that is exactly what gives him an advantage among the voters, we will get an answer on 24 January. Only club members in 'Blaugrana' have the right to vote in elections.
