Lionel Messi's contract with FC Barcelona expired on June 30 and he has therefore since been available for other clubs to intercept completely as a free agent, its left to him to decide his next destination buy it seems unclear right now. Barcelona is therefore right now embarking on a persistent attempt to create an economy good enough to hold on to the Ballon d'Or winner. This has to be done by getting rid of other players whose salaries are thought to be too high compared to their current football playing level.

Matheus Fernandes was the first player to leave the club this summer when he had his contract torn over. Then it was Francisco Trincão's turn to depart when he was loaned out to English Wolverhampton, who after the one-year loan have a purchase option of approximately €23 million on the striker, who will be another of the many Portuguese who has moved to Wolverhampton

Philippe Coutinho will likely be sold this summer and his value is estimated to be around €40million. In addition, the Catalan big club is about to cancel the contract of Samuel Umtiti and Miralem Pjanic. The two players are both high on the salary list, but playing time is tight for both of them, and therefore the club was able to terminate the agreements with the two to create space on the salary budget. While Martin Braithwaite, Carles Aleña, Clement Lenglet and Antoine Griezmann could likely leave the team any time soon.
