Forbes has published a ranking of the highest paid athletes in the world:
The leader this year, having displaced Conor McGregor (who this time did not even enter the top 10), was the striker of the Argentina national football team and the French "Paris Saint-Germain" Lionel Messi. For the year from May 1, 2021 to May 1, 2022, Messi earned $130 million ($75 million from his salary and bonuses, and $55 million from sponsorship and advertising contracts).
The second place in the list of the richest athletes was taken by the American basketball player LeBron James ($121.2 million), and the Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo closed the top three with an income of $115 million.

The total income of athletes from the top ten Forbes amounted to almost a billion dollars - $ 992 million per year.
