Pele played for Santos at the age of 15 and played for the Brazilian national team at the age of 16. During his international career, he won three FIFA World Cups: 1958, 1962 and 1970, the only player to do so. Pel is Brazil's all-time leading scorer with 77 goals in 92 games. At club level, he was Santos' record goalkeeper and led the 1962 and 1963 Copa Libertadores. Pel’s “Electrified Lightning and Fantasy for Spectacular Goals” has made him a star around the world, and his teams have traveled internationally to take full advantage of his popularity. Since retiring in 1977, Pel has become a worldwide ambassador in football and has done many acting and commercial ventures. In 2010, he was named the Honorable President of the New York Cosmos.

Pel is also known for associating the word "the beautiful game" with football. With an average of almost every goal throughout his career, Pel was able to predict the movements of his opponents on the field as well as hit the legs. Primarily as a striker, he can drop deep and take on a playmaking role, providing support with his vision and passing ability and he will use his opponents ’skills to go to the eastern opponents. In Brazil, he was hailed as a national hero for his achievements in football and for his clear support for the policy of improving the social conditions of the poor. During his career and retirement, Pele received numerous individual and team awards for his performances on the field, his record-breaking achievements, and his legacy in the sport.
