Nicknamed "The Atomic Bull," Oliver McCall fought in the heavyweight division, standing 6' 3" tall with an 82-inch arm span, a powerful physique and very strong. Defeated Lennox Lewis by TKO in the second round in 1994 for the WBC 200+ lbs title, defended his title against legend Larry Holmes, retaining it by unanimous decision (UD) in 1995, but lost to the Englishman Frank Bruno by unanimous decision (UD) in the same year of 1995.
Then he was defeated by Lennox Lewis by technical knockout (TKO) in the fifth round in 1997 for the WBC title of more than 200 lbs, in a very strange event, where McCall refused to continue after having a nervous breakdown. He has never contested a world title again. Among other notable opponents, he has a unanimous decision loss (UD) to Mike Hunter (both starters) in 1998.
In his career he presents a victory by unanimous decision (UD), against David Jaco in the same year of 1998, a loss by unanimous decision (UD) against James Buster Douglas in 1989, a victory by split decision (SD) over Lionel Butler in 1990, a split decision (SD) loss to Orlin Norris.
Win against Bruce Seldon by ninth-round technical knockout (TKO) in 1991, followed by another unanimous decision (UD) win against Jesse Ferguson, then suffer a split decision (SD) loss to Tony Tucker in 1992 by a minor title, called NABF, victory over Francesco Damiani by technical knockout (TKO) in the eighth round in 1993.
"The Atomic Bull" is known for his indestructible chin, he has never been knocked down, not once in his entire career. He is also known for having been the training and sparring partner of "Iron" Mike Tyson for a long time. He even dropped Tyson in a sparring match once, unlike Tyson who never dropped McCall.
