A ninth place in La Liga. Defeat to Real Madrid at El Clásico at home. Two major defeats in the Champions League for Bayern Munich and Benfica respectively. Defeat for the promotions from Rayo Vallecano tonight. That is the reality that FC Barcelona is facing at the moment, and it has cost Ronald Koeman the job.

The club has just confirmed on its website that the Dutchman will no longer be the coach of the Spanish big club. The club's president, Joan Laporta, conveyed the news to Koeman after tonight's defeat. The Dutchman will be allowed to say goodbye to the squad tomorrow, and the club ends its press release by thanking him for his efforts. However, they do not report who will take over the job.

Ronald Koeman took over the job at FC Barcelona last summer after a period as Dutch national coach, and he managed to lead the team in 67 matches. Here he picked up 40 wins, 11 draws and suffered 16 defeats. It also turned into a single trophy as the club won last season's Copa del Rey following a 4-0 win over Athletic Bilbao.

I think the question is: Why wasn't he fired before? Supposedly because of a rescission clause that made Barcelona have to pay him a few millions, but they still have to pay that, so why not fire him before, he never gave them good results.
