The South America World Cup qualifiers for 2022 have started. We had three games yesterday, Uruguay-Chile, Paraguay-Peru and Argentina-Ecuador. Unfortunately these games are not being televised in my country so I have to go by the commentaries I read. All agree that yesterday's games showed six teams that are not really in any good shape, the teams that won Argentina and Uruguay both won with penalties and they were playing at home, apparently there were some controversial referee and VAR calls in both games.

Actually if my memory serves me right the South American qualifiers always start with low intensity with teams that are nervous and don't play good. But as far as I have read this year the competitiveness of the teams is well below that of the big European teams. I do hope things improve. So far there are no real surprises, perhaps Paraguay tying at home, but Paraguay has been on a low for quite a while now.

Today we had two games, Colombia beat Venezuela which is a logical outcome, and Brazil also beat Bolivia, these are scores that are to be expected the quality of Colombia and Brazil are way ahead of their two rivals, Colombia scoring three against Venezuela is no surprise as Brazil scoring five against Bolivia is also no surprise, especially since both played at home.

It is playing like the usual South American qualifiers so I guess we will be seeing the same five teams in Qatar perhaps we can think of one surprise.
