If Manchester City won Sunday's top match against Liverpool, many thought it would be championship decisive, as Pep Guardiola's team would then have a four point lead with seven games left.

At the break, City were ahead 2-1 after a terrific and intense first half that also started off violently. It had only been four minutes when Kevin De Bruyne scored the first goal of the match, but before that, Raheem Sterling had actually abused a great chance against his old employer.

After a dozen minutes, Liverpool's Diogo Jota equalized after a good presentation by Trent Alexander-Arnold, but the otherwise goalless Gabiel Jesus cheated Liverpool's offside trap and scored to make it 2-1.

The heady level from the first half also continued at the start of the second half, where not even a minute had passed before the native Sadio Mane scored to make it 2-2 after a distinguished pass from Mohamed Salah.

After an hour of play, Manchester City thought they had scored to make it 3-2, but the Sterling score was correctly canceled out for offside by the VAR referees. So the match ended 2-2 and thus the championship match is still as intense - as Sunday's showdown was…
