As a football fan in general, I sometimes like to read stuff that is happening around football globally. As always, I was reading through social media and suddenly I came across a post that said Chelsea were about to sack their head coach which was Frank Lampard a former player at the club who went on to achieve tremendous and great things at the club and becoming a club legend. As someone who follows European football a lot and watch a lot of club football matches especially the top 5 European leagues, I like Chelsea and already knew who Frank Lampard was. I knew things were not going well for him and his team these past few months, but knowing how well respected he is at the club and the status he has built for himself during his playing time at the club, I never thought the club would sack in midway through the season… even though the sack was looking more and more likely as Chelsea were losing matches and performing poorly, I thought as a club legend and a player of his status, he will be giving more time… and if things still don’t go well, he will leave at the end of the season.
As usual, what we are thinking isn’t what the owners and the board are thinking as they know that things aren’t going in the right direction and rightly so… while reading through the different posts talking about Lampard about to be sacked by Chelsea since that was what was trending yesterday in the sports section of twitter, Chelsea now made it official and it now made me to realize that the modern game is all about results rather than sentiments. A thought came to my mind and I began to ask myself… Is it always the coach’s fault when things stop going well with his team?... the reason I was asking myself this question was that Chelsea were in fact looking really good few months ago, bouncing back from the early season poor results which was quite understandable because they just signed new players who were still adjusting to life in a new league, the premier league which is known to be a very difficult league especially for new comers…
Looking at everything put together and the news and reports that came out yesterday after Lampard was sacked, I have to say that it is not always the coach’s fault when things stop going well in his team… this is because there are other factors that can cause this not only the coach’s lack of tactical plans or in-game management. The players also play a huge role… sometimes the players don’t put in the efforts needed to win a game in a competitive league. Yes, talent is great but hardwork is needed as well. A team that works the hardest can and will most times beat a team that has all the talents in the world and relies only on talent like we have seen so many times in competitive sports, not only in football. In other words, there are other factors that all play their role when things stop going well with a team.
