I have no official plans for covering the draft, but I do plan on covering it with some posts down the line here.
I'm just going for it ya know?
When people rank players for the NFL Draft, everyone has their own motivating factors and criteria.
This is my list of the top quarterbacks entering this draft.
5. Trey Lance
This dude definitely has got some great potential. Under the right coaching staff he could definitely become great. He's a sturdy guy with a strong arm. Mobile enough. The only issue I have with him is his competition he faced in college. He went to North Dakota State, like man that's not exactly stacked with high caliber athletes.
He put up some pretty awesome numbers during his FCS career but even with those numbers he doesn't exactly blow my mind with talent, especially against lesser talent than most of the top guys face in the draft. He doesn't exactly jump off the screen for me. He throw bombs and runs a lot. Shrug.
One last very positive note is that he will only be 21 years old in his rookie year, that's obviously super young. Like I said if he can find a good, patient coaching staff and organization he could become a really good QB.
4. Justin Fields
Justin Fields looks like five to ten percent better than Lance in pretty much every category. I think he's a better passer and runner and commander of an offense. Couple those superior skills with the fact that Fields played against much more competitive competition, you have my reasons as to why Fields is at number four.
While I think mobility in QB's is overall pretty overrated I do appreciate how smooth and graceful of a runner Fields is. He also seems to be quite good at being a legit pocket passer.
Fields could really be a steal in this draft, people might be sleeping on him despite his accolades and being in the top five of everyone's draft board.
I'm intrigued.
3. Zach Wilson
This was tough for me to put Zach Wilson at three, I was indeed tempted to put him at two. But there is a lot of mystery for me concerning Wilson.
His tap looks amazing don't get me wrong. He looks like a better Johnny Manziel mixed with a smaller Josh Allen.
The minor concerns I have are his size and competition. He is listed at 6'3" but I can't help but feel like maybe he's smaller than that, I don't know. He doesn't seem that big and having good size is a big deal to me. I understand some smaller players find success in the league, but long term and truly great success is usually reserved to players with good size.
Playing at BYU is not horrible competition but compared to my top two QB's it's really no comparison.
But Wilson still could very likely end up being really good. He could be very fun to watch.
2. Mac Jones
Oh noooooo a prototypical pocket passing QB prospect as my number two choice woah.
Yeah man. I have a post coming up very soon about pocket passers and their value to NFL teams.
Anyway, Mac Jones is a really good quarterback. A quarterback throws the ball, he doesn't run it like everyone expects them to do nowadays.
When it comes to being a passer of the football, this guy does it at a super efficient and high level.
If you guys wanna watch people sprint, go watch some track and field ya know?
This man can deliver very good passes and he's a National Champion that played for a school that has dominated for the past decade. A team that has a very pro-style systems.
I think he'll be a good quality reliable starter.
1. Trevor Lawrence
This should really come as no surprise, but Trevor Lawrence indeed is the best QB prospect in my opinion entering this draft. He is big and smart and athletic. There's not a throw the guy can't make. He is a great leader from what I hear.
This guy is a franchise quarterback.
Unfortunately it appears that the Jacksonville Jaguars will be selecting him with the first overall pick, which means that my Titans may have to deal with him for the next 15 years.
Man, I hope he's a bust. Hopefully the Jags suck at building a team around him.
There is a alight chance he could be a bust honestly. He seems to throw the ball kind of weird sorta and I feel like sometimes the ball comes out of his hand slow. But I just think it's probably because he's so big, but then again Justin Herbert is also really big and the ball seems to come out of his hand smooth.
I'm just nit-picking here and trying to at least throw SOME negatives toward him.
But all in all I believe he'll be a good if not great QB. Unfortunately.
What are your thoughts on this year's NFL Draft?
Hive on folks.
