The much-anticipated champions league showdown is here again. As always, there were exciting fixtures that was played. Real Madrid match was one of the matches that had a lot of eyeballs on it… however, their problems continue to worsen as they fall against Shakhtar Donetsk at the NSC Olimpiyskiy. A solid win for Shakhtar Donetsk against Real Madrid to jump to second on the table. This was a must-win game for Real Madrid for a chance to go top of the group, however, they failed to do it as Shakhtar Donetsk proved too strong yet again to do the double against Real Madrid.
The game began and we thought we would see a Real Madrid team who has regained their self especially after winning their last fixture. The game started and both teams werent really talking risks in the game, which meant that the first half was bland. All the actions began in the second half. Dentinho scored the first goal for Shakhtar Donetsk on the 57th minute before Manor Solomon completed the double late in the game to seal the win for Shakhtar Donetsk.
What is happening in Group B is another prove that what is on paper doesn’t matter rather it is what happens on the pitch that matters. Before the group stage matches began, everyone simply put Real Madrid to win the group, with may be Inter Milan to finish second on the table… however, things turned around quickly as both Real Madrid and Inter Milan are the two teams who might not make it out of the group. It is funny how people write teams off even before the game is played, forgetting that in football, anything is possible.
The major talking point after the game is whether Real Madrid will make it to the next round or whether they will drop to the Europa League for the first time in their history. This is very interesting as there are some section of fans that want to see that happen while there are some section that don’t want to see that. The good news is that, everything will be made visible soon as the group stage games is almost getting to an end. This season has been filled with a lot of surprises in the champions league.
Looking at Real Madrid’s group, I think that is the most wide open group in this competition. All the teams there still have a chance of qualifying which now makes the last game an extremely important match, and a fixture that will have a lot of eyeballs on it. The last fixtures will be a whole lot of excitement for the neutrals. Can’t wait for that to kick off.
