Chelsea once again showed the stuff they are made up against Sevilla away. This was a must-not-lose game for Chelsea if they wanted to secure top spot in the group. Going into this game, they already know how good Sevilla is especially at home, their first leg meeting was a clear example of how strong of a team Sevilla is, so for Chelsea, it was important not to lose this game. A win would be great, but to them, even a draw would be enough as far as they win their last match… which is a match Chelsea are expected to win. A lot of the Chelsea fans were skeptical whether Chelsea could go to Sevilla and beat them in their own back yard, however, Chelsea reassured their fans that they are moving in the right direction as they did not only beat Sevilla, they annihilated, they obliterated Sevilla in their home to secure top spot in the group.
Prior to the match, it was a game that we expected goals but for both teams… many predicted a draw while some thought Sevilla were going to be too strong for Chelsea, however, Chelsea proved all the doubters wrong with arguably their second team. The match began and both teams were doing their thing. Sevilla had more of the ball in the first minutes of the game, however, Chelsea had a gameplan to absorb Sevilla attack and not give them any chance to do anything with the ball. The first goal of the match came. Giroud was the man to give Chelsea the deserved lead as early as eight minutes into the game. From that moment, Sevilla didn’t really threaten Chelsea. The first half ended 0-1 for Chelsea.
The second half was pretty much similar, but this time, Chelsea had more control of the game this time and scored more in the second half. Another early goal for Chelsea in the second half to give themselves the cushion. Giroud was the man at the end of it again. A beautiful right-footed goal to score the second goal for Chelsea on the 54th minute. Giroud again… what a goal. A quick play from Chelsea from the goalkeeper with a superb pull out. The ball came to the path of Kante who did very well to drive the ball forward to find space and put in a peach of a cross from Kante to find the head of Giroud who did what he does best as far as heading the ball is concerned. A fantastic header from Giroud to score his perfect hattrick. At that point, it was game over for Sevilla. We thought we saw it all, but Giroud wasn’t satisfied with 3 goals as he won a penalty and gave himself the duty to take it. As expected especially a man oozing confidence, he sent the goal keeper the wrong way to score the perfect of the perfect hattrick. 4 goals away at Sevilla isn’t an easy task for most of the top teams in Europe at the moment. Chelsea did it to cement top spot in the group. A great individual performance by Giroud and a great team performance from Chelsea to nullify Sevilla attack. Great win for Chelsea as they prepare for the next game.
