This has been a routine before the now unavailable Uptrennd went offline and since then I have not been writing about the sport update but nevertheless, I do comment on sports update posts and finally I am glad to be back fully.
The UEFA champions league resumed today after the international break and once again, the titans had a clash with tremendous results.
Group E
Somebody say old rival at it again. 😂😂😂
Barcelona are now in the mercy of Bayern Munich again as a win against Bayern Munich in the final group stage game is the only available ticket to round of 16. No be war be that?? 🤔🤔🤔
Barcelona could not convert any of their shots and ended the match against Benfica in a goalless draw.
Bayern Munich on the other hand had a win in the first half with a sensational overhead kick from Robert Lewandowski in the 14th minutes before Kingsley Coman added his own goal in the 42nd minutes while Denis Harmash scored a consolidatory goal for Dynamo Kyiv in the 70th minutes but it was too late as Bayern Munich stood their ground.
Group F
To me, Michael Carrick has only achieved what could have been achieved by Solksajaer since Manchester United are in good form in the champions league but nevertheless, it was a good outing for a start.
Manchester United had a glimpse of winning only after the wonder working and aggressive forwarded, Bruno Fernades and Marcus Rashford were introduced in the 66th minutes.
It does not take more than 12 minutes before Christiano Ronaldo gave Manchester United the lead before Jadon Sancho went ahead to make it a deep wound by scoring his first goal for Manchester United in the last minutes.
Young Boys and Atalanta fought hard but an early Goal from Duvam Zapota gave Atalanta the lead before the game turned around in favour of Young Boys while Luis Muriel levelled it up again in the 88th minutes to bring the match to a halt with 3 goals each to both team.
Group G
This is the toughest group I could say for now considering the fact that each team were just 1 point away from another team. Lille (8points), Salzburg (7points), Sevilla (6points) and Wolfsburg (5 points).
Sevilla entered the battle for round of 16 after ending their match against Wolfsburg with 2 goals to nil.
Lille also had a nice sit at home victory against FC Salzburg with a lone goal.
Group H
Zenit St. Petersburg had a share of the point with a goal from the penalty spot during the 2minutes added time (90+2) but not after losing a previous attempt from the same penalty spot by Artem Dzyuba in the 52nd minutes.
Maybe I should not have added this but it is an update.
The Italian giants came to England and they were warmly welcomed by the current in form Chelsea.
Trevoh Chalobah opened the scoring streak before Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi added more goals to the scoreboard while Timo Werner handed over a transport fare to the Italian giants following an assist from Hakim Ziyech who missed a brilliant build up minutes earlier.
The match ended 4-0 in favour of Chelsea.
What else to note:
- Bayern Munich is the only team to net four in four consecutive match competition since the European Cup was formed.
- Lewandowski has now scored 9 goals in 5 games.
- Christian Ronaldo has scored his 799th senior career goal.
- Michael Carrick is the first English manager to win his first game in charge of Manchester United after Walter Crickmer in November 1931.
- Only Van Nistelrooy in 2004/2005 with 8 goals has ever scored more than Ronaldo (6 goals) for an English club in a single group stage of UEFA competition.
- Jadon Sancho scored his first Manchester United goal in his 15th appearance and 11th attempted shots.
