UFC fighter Conor McGregor has officially signed a contract match against Dustin Poirier in January 2021. The Irish fighter said so on Thursday. The news of McGregor's fight with Poirier had previously been blowing, but the contract was signed by Poirier. This showdown will be the main fixture at UFC 257 on 23 January 2021.

McGregor vs Poirier was once obliged, namely in 2014 at UFC 178. McGregor won by knockout in the first round by hitting the area next to Poirier's head. Since then McGregor has gone eight fold with a record of six wins and two defeats to Nate Diaz and Khabib Nurmagomedov. In those six wins, McGregor won the featherweight champion from Jose Aldo in 2015 and took the lightweight champion belt from Eddie Alvarez in 2016.

Meanwhile, after the first fight against McGregor, Poirier was more active. He happened to be 13 times with 10 wins, one no contest, and two defeats to Khabib and Michael Johnson. The battle for the second volume of McGregor vs Poirier does not compete for the lightweight championship belt considering Khabib's status, who declared his retirement after defeating Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 in October, does not seem official. According to the official UFC website, Khabib still holds the lightweight champion belt.

UFC resident Dana White has spoken to Khabib and believes The Eagle is not 100 percent retired. The location of the second McGregor vs Poirier fight has yet to be officially announced but is likely to take place at Fight Island Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.
