In the sixteenth century the game was known among the British as the Battler and Shuttlecock. From the Middle Ages to the end of the sixteenth century the game became quite popular among children in rural Britain. By the seventeenth century, Battledoors and Shuttlecocks had become known as a modern sport to the upper class people in Britain as well as in various European countries.

How did the game get the name 'Badminton' from Battledoor and Shuttlecock? The game first gained popularity in Britain. Gloucestershire is a province in southwestern Britain. There is a small village called Badminton, also known as Jajakpalli. The Duke of Beaufort, the ruler of Gloucestershire, has a famous house here, known as the ‘Badminton House’. So those residents loved this game. From there, the game was named Badminton according to the Badminton Village or Badminton House. However, Eyes had the biggest role behind this naming
