Hello Everyone..
In this blog, I will @mspbro start with the basics of , learn about the rules of motorcycle braking. If you are an expert or beginner motorcyclist, you must have a couple of questions on how to use the brakes. Even if you don't have any questions, maybe there is something wrong with the way you use the brakes. Since brakes are the only device that can help you save an accident at the last minute, you should have a clear idea about this and eliminate any confusion.
If you know a lot about bikes then of course you know that bikes have two brakes - one on the front wheel and one on the rear. The front wheel brake is controlled by the right grip of the front hand lever and the rear wheel brake is used by the right foot pedal. So do you think you should use one brake or both? When you go to slow down your bike, the weight balance of the bike moves from the rear wheel to the front wheel. Which is why your front wheel has to handle everything.
Where there is not much pressure on the rear wheel, the rear brake pressure causes the wheel to slide which causes you to slide with the bike. But due to being heavier on the front wheel, the chances of slip cutting are less. But which brake you will use depends on your skill and condition. Studies have shown that 80% of the pressure falls on the front wheel and the rest on the rear wheel.
But this does not mean that you will use the brakes depending on the ratio. The ratio depends from one bike to another. Dart bikes do not require much front wheel but sports bikes require a lot of front braking. Cruisers and choppers have more pressure on the rear wheel brakes. So you can see that the brakes work depending on the bike.
Learn about your own bike. It is best if you practice braking on an open area or on a road that is less crowded. Before applying a motorcycle brake, understand how the brakes work on your bike and how comfortable you feel on a brake.
Suppose you are in an emergency situation, then keep an eye on how to take a break. This will allow you to adjust the reaction time of the bike's brakes. With more practice you will understand how the weight is being transferred so that you can better understand the right time to take a break and how to take a break.
Also, with more practice, you will realize how much the rear wheel will not go up or the rear wheel will not slip if the motorcycle brakes are applied. There are many of you who like to watch bike races, then you may have noticed that when the racers curve with the bikes they almost tilt to one side with the knees along the road. You have also noticed many times that this leaning sometimes does not work according to the plan which leads to fatal accidents.
When the friction depends on the condition of the road then of course the condition of the road will affect your braking. If you are not very sure about the force, then press and hold the front brake. But keep in mind that locking the front brakes is much more dangerous than locking the rear brakes. Be alert at all times. If you are not sure, ride slowly and apply the brakes with low force.
The calculation and efficiency for a motorcycle brake actually depends a lot on itself. To become proficient in this subject you need to take care and learn to think very quickly - so that you can easily deal with any situation. Always try to ride a bike at medium speed. The higher the speed, the harder it will be to hold the brakes. Hopefully this article has given you a clear idea on how to apply the brakes on a motorcycle. Ride safely and stay safe.
