The Time Volkswagen Took The Golf Offroading

That right there is the 1990 VW MK2 Golf Country. Now I know some of you guys are scratching ya heads thinking "who in their right minds would modify a Golf like that" but in actual fact Volkswagen produced around 7735 of them.

Their idea was to create an exciting version of the MK2 Golf (like the GTI and rallyE wasn't fun enough ). But anyways they made this for the people who lived in, lets say rough areas.

Well at the time Volkswagen didn't think there was a market for such a car because those people had a Land Rover for that, but boy were they wrong. It was a huge hit, but too bad VW didn't extend the production of it.

It wasn't the fastest, but it was quick

It was a 1.8 litre, 4 cylinder, 8 valve petrol with 98 bhp. Now I know that isn't much but off-roading isn't about power. It's about torque. Now this bad boy had 142 N.M. It also had an improved ground clearance of 8.3 inches, long travel suspension, syncro all-wheel-drive(predecessor of Volkwagen's current 4Motion all-wheel-drive system)

But it also had skid plates and not only front and rear bull bars but also little tiny bull bars for the headlamps.

Look at how cute these little suckers are. They were even on the fog lights.

Now if anyone is considering buying a country, it's going to set you back around 10000 pounds. Now it might seem a lot for a 30 year old Golf but I can assure you it will be worth it.

Well that's it. I really hoped you all enjoyed that.
