That right there my friends is the so called modern 2JZ.
The BMW N54B30
This 3.0 litre straight 6 twin turbo is found in the BMW E90 335i
This engine is a tuner's wildest dream. Because it is basically a 2JZ for a quarter of the price. And then there's the car. The BMW E90 335i. This car is an absolute jewel because firstly its as discreet as a 320i but as powerful and fast as an E46 M3.
The production of this engine ran from 2006-2010, exclusively for the 335i. But after that they dropped this engine in 1, 5 and 7 series. Stock it produced around 302 bhp and 400 N.M.
But what makes this engine so desireable for tuners is the endless tuning potential that it carries. With just a small tune you'd be hitting well above 500 bhp, and if you strengthen the internals, swap out a few parts and increase the boost on the turbos you would be reaching well over 1000 bhp.
And all of that for a tenth of the price of a MK4 Toyota Supra. Plus you'll be getting:
~ German engineering
~ German precision
~ German comfort
~ German luxury
And a lot more.
And if you have a family they did do a sedan version as well as the coupe.
So if anyone reading this wants a supra but is on a budget, I really hope I helped changed your mind.
